A Moment of Mindfulness

Saisystems Blog A Moment of Mindfulness

When we left our workplaces for the safety of our homes it was spring and since then, the summer has come and gone.  Now as the leaves slip from green to an array of autumn colors we are finally returning to our offices, even if it is in a controlled minimal fashion.

Now we must balance remote working with office days and for many, the start of the school year brings an additional layer of responsibility and stress.

Students also have a hybrid model of home and in-school learning and for working parents it is a return to the challenges of the early days of the pandemic.  Splitting time between work responsibilities and ensuring a proper education for their children.

These additional pressures have placed us in front of our computer screens for more hours than usual.  We have become reliant upon early mornings and evenings to try and get ahead or to catch up.

While at times this work is indeed necessary, we must remember to take time for ourselves and family.  In Stephen R. Covey's book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Doctor Covey reminds us “We must never become too busy sawing to take time to sharpen the saw.”

We must be mindful of our physical and mental health.  Be conscious of what you are eating.  It is very easy to snack when we work so close to a full kitchen and remember to drink plenty of water.

Leaving your desk for exercise is another item to remember.  There is a benefit to taking a simple walk around your neighborhood.

Connecting with friends and family also reenergizes you.  Especially, since we have all been so physically distant from each other.  Use video chats for more than just meetings.

Your mind and soul also require refreshment.  Reading, writing, meditation, prayer, and service all recharge the spirit.

We are slowly reuniting, but during this process take time to care for yourself as well as others and be safe.

In your service.
